LA CASCATA DELLA TROGGIA

Deep in the green mountains of Valsassina, Ciresa is surrounded by breathtaking panoramas.

One of the most fascinating places of our valley is undoubtedly the “Cascata della Troggia” (Troggia Falls), our neighbour.
Symbol of Introbio, our adopted village, the waterfall is situated behind our headquarters. A fall of about 100 metres of crystalline water, which ends in a small lake surrounded by high rocks.

Easily accessibile on foot, Cascata della Troggia is the ideal destination for a short trip in the uncontaminated nature.

The beauty of this place was also described by Leonardo Da Vinci in a short passage of the Atlantic Code. In 1495, when he was hosted in the Milan Court by Ludovico Sforza “Il Moro”, Leonardo described the Troggia as follows:

“In Valsassina, infra Vimognie e Introbbio, a man destra, entrando per via di Lecco, si trova la Trosa, fiume che cade da uno sasso altissimo, e cadendo entra sotto terra, e li finiscie il fiume. 3 miglia più in là si trova li edifizi della vena del rame e dello arzento, presso a una terra detta Pra Sancto Petro, e vene di ferro, e cose fantastiche.”

(In Valsassina, between Vimogno and Introbio, at the right side coming from Lecco, there is the Trosa, a river that falls from a high rock, and falling enters under-earth, and there it stops. 3 miles away there are some copper and silver mines, in a village called Pra Sancto Petro, and some iron mines, and other fantastic things).
As you can see from the excerpt of the Atlantic Code, Leonardo da Vinci wrote in a specular way, that is from left to right. In this way, it was difficult to read his documents.

For some experts, the reason of this peculiar writing was to avoid his rivals to understand what he was writing. For others, it was a habit developed when he was young.
Even at those times, a famous artist like Leonardo fell in love with our lands and commented with admiration Valsassina and its “beautiful things”.
